February 2013

A world athletics record for the 200 metres of 20.5 seconds was set at Wolverhampton’s Aldersley Stadium in May 1960 by Walsall athlete Peter Radford. Peter’s achievement went uncommemorated until February 2013, when finally through the efforts of Wolverhampton businessman John Margetts Peter’s record was marked at Aldersley Stadium with a graphic of his achievement designed by Jackson Bird.

Peter went on to win Olympic and Championship medals. Pursuing a career in the USA and UK as a professor of sports science at various universities and becoming Chairman of UK Athletics.
